How to write a caregiver job description that gets applicants

Good caregivers usually have options, and most of them read job posts on a phone between shifts. The posts that get answered are short, specific and honest about pay and schedule. Here's what matters most.

1. Lead with pay, shifts and location

These are the three things a caregiver checks first. Put them in the first few lines, not at the bottom. If you pay a range, give the range and say what moves someone up it — experience, certifications, weekend or overnight work.

2. Describe a real visit, not a list of buzzwords

“Help clients with bathing, dressing and meals” tells a caregiver more than “provide holistic person-centred care.” Be clear about whether the role is hands-on personal care or companionship, and whether it involves transfers or a mechanical lift.

3. Separate must-haves from nice-to-haves

If a CNA certification, a driver's license or a clean background check is required, say so. If you'll train the right person, say that too — “no experience needed, we'll train you” widens your pool a lot for companion and personal care roles.

4. Make applying take minutes, not an evening

Long forms and required resumes lose good caregivers, many of whom don't have a resume ready. Let people apply from their phone and follow up quickly — agencies that call back within a day or two tend to hire the best people.

5. Only promise what you offer

Weekly pay, flexible scheduling and paid training are strong draws — list them if they're true. Overpromising gets applicants, then loses them at the first paycheck.

Common questions

Is this caregiver job description generator really free?

Yes. There's no sign-up and no limit. It runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you type is saved or sent anywhere — copy the result and use it wherever you like.

What should a caregiver job description include?

A clear job title, the location, the pay range, the schedule and shifts, what the caregiver will actually do on a visit, the certifications and experience you need, your benefits, and a simple way to apply. Caregivers skim on their phones, so short bullet points beat long paragraphs.

Should I put the pay rate in a caregiver job posting?

In most cases, yes. Caregivers compare hourly pay between agencies, and a posting without it is easy to skip. A growing number of US states and cities also require a pay range in job postings, so check the rules where you hire.

What's the difference between a caregiver, CNA, HHA and PCA job description?

A CNA (certified nursing assistant) holds a state certification and can take vital signs under a nurse's supervision. A home health aide (HHA) has completed state-approved training and usually works from a nurse's care plan. A personal care aide (PCA) and a general caregiver help with daily living like bathing, dressing and meals. A companion caregiver focuses on company and help around the house without hands-on personal care. Pick the role in the generator and the duties and requirements change to match.

Where should I post my caregiver job description?

Anywhere caregivers look: Indeed, Facebook groups and Marketplace, Craigslist, your own website and local community boards. If you post it on Hirecise, you also get a mobile-friendly apply link and every applicant ranked best match first, with a call button next to each one.
