Writing a live-in caregiver posting

Live-in caregivers stay in the client's home and provide support across the day and, when needed, the night: personal care, meals, housekeeping, routines and companionship.

The questions live-in candidates ask first are about the schedule (how many days on and off), sleeping arrangements, breaks and how pay works. Answer those clearly — and check federal and state wage-and-hour rules for live-in work before you post, since they differ by state and by employer type.

Common questions

What does a live-in caregiver do?

Personal care, meal planning and cooking, housekeeping, keeping daily routines on track, companionship, and responding to needs during the night as agreed in the care plan.

How should I describe pay for a live-in role?

Say how the role is paid (for example a daily rate or hourly), what's included, and how breaks and sleep time are handled. Rules differ by state, so check them before posting.

What do live-in candidates look for in a job post?

The rotation (days on and off), a private room, scheduled breaks, the client's care needs and the pay. The clearer those are, the better your applicants.
